Jan 31, 2019 Icons always default to the secondary monitor. Moving the icons over to the primary monitor. Icons will move to the secondary monitor upon boot or any screen refresh. Deselecting 'auto arrange' for desktop icons; The icons will still go to the secondary monitor. In the Desktop Icons panel you can choose which of the built-in icons to show on the desktop: One of the most common requests is how to add the Recycle bin back which you can also do from the above panel. Another Trick in Windows 7 or Vista. To put the Computer icon on the desktop, click the Start button, and then right-click on “Computer”. Lots of other “ how to keep desktop icons from moving ” solutions recommend to turn of the “Auto Arrange”. Even this wasn’t the solution for me neither, it seems that some people surprisingly had success with this. All you have to do is to position your cursor on a free space on your desktop.
I ran a Malwarebytes virus scan and there was nothing. I will just have to live with it. Since 1997, I have never had a computer last for more than 4 years. This one is 3 years old.
So I have 1 more year to go before this one self destructs. This site has problems. This is the second time I tried to write this post. The 1st one was much more detailed.
It would not post. Something about a security key not matching. I was logged out automatically 3 times. I had problems with previous posts also.
My Windows 10 system has been upgraded to Creators Update and become completely up-to-date via Windows Update. I had already putted some app shortcuts on my desktop, but their icon positions keep moving randomly if I make a Refresh action. I configure the Screen Resolution to 1920 by 1080 as recommended and Custom scaling to 120% and nothing happens. It seems to be bug in Windows 10 Creators Update and the desktop grid has changed under the same size and screen resolution. If any app icons are in the screen corners and user do Refresh, Windows will re-arrange all icons out of corners to more middle.
When I move an icon into that column on the left side of my screen. And click off the icon, it reverts back to its previous position and I lost an entire column. Hold-and-press or right click on any empty area from your desktop, click on View, and uncheck the “Align Icons to Grid” option from menu for disabling the feature.
Then repeat the way to enable Align Icons to Grid feature again. It really resolve my problem on my dell 5510 with a 4K display. Another real fix is to hold Ctrl + Scroll from keyboard to make the icons a little bigger. However, if you restart the Windows 10 and login back system, the moving positions occurs again so this is a temporary method.Another solution by changing Desktop app Icon spacing and vertical spacing in Windows 10. Press Win + R from your keyboard, type regedit in Run dialog box, and click OK button to open Registry editor.
Navigate to the tree location below. ComputerHKEYCURRENTUSERControl PanelDesktopWindowMetrics. Go to the right pane, and you need to modify the values of IconSpacing and IconVerticalSpacing.
For example, double click on the IconSpacing string, change its value data from default to -1215, and click OK. Then double click on the IconVerticalSpacing, set it value data to -900, and click OK to save all. Close Registry editor and log out and in or restart your PC to take effects.
The borders become marginally thin and you go to check if the issues present.
