Laser = Metal Blaster, 272 dps, cost of 3 caps per shot (1x MF cell) Plasma = MPLX Novasurge, 253 dps, cost of 4 caps per shot (2x SEC) Both weapons are relatively easy to repair, as basic laser rifles work for the Metal Blaster and every enclave camp tends to have an officer with a plasma pistol for your Novasurge.

Once you've gotten a Plasma Defender (especially modded), is there really any reason to keep a Plasma Pistol? Or is the Pistol's extra crit chance (x1.5 vs x1.0 on the Defender) and slightly higher damage (40 vs 38 - but 25dps lower) worth keeping it around for general use (as opposed to a dedicated crit build)?EDIT: Ah. There's the distinction. Seems that the Plasma Pistol's an Improved Holdout Weapon, while the Defender isn't. Still, dunno if that's enough of a reason.
